Fabrication
PIM has a steel division, an aluminum division, and a precast concrete area for in-house design and fabrication of quality approaches, ramps, and gangways. We source treated wood from various suppliers around the Pacific Northwest, preferring to purchase locally where practical. The metal fabrication divisions also function as subcontractors for many of our competitors and work directly for owners and engineers as well as our installation group. Both steel and aluminum divisions are certified to Canadian Welding Bureau (CWB) Standards. Our concrete precast is built in Cowichan Bay to CSA standards.
Steel Fabrication
Pacific Industrial & Marine’s steel division is CWB Certified to CSA Standard W47.1 (Steel) operating with +/- 30 welders in our 2 assembly shops. We work with a team of engineers to fabricate practical solutions to meet our customers varied needs. Our shop capacity at the two locations is over 17,000 sq.ft., with four overhead cranes. We have direct highway access from our Chemainus location and marine access for larger structures from our Cowichan Bay site. Both locations have painting facilities, quality control and assurance systems capable of providing NACE level standards for coating warranties.
The steel division produces all types of bridge and bridge components as well as marine ramps, fenders, pontoons, floating leads, catwalks, platforms, embeds for concrete, ladders, railings and much more. We do custom fabrication ranging from work for the Ministry of Forests, BC Hydro, BC Ferries, and the Department of Fisheries and Oceans to smaller projects including custom fabricated barges for float homes and steel floating breakwaters or steel ramps.
Because of our location on the waterfront in Cowichan Bay, PIM is able to fabricate large structures and load them directly into the ocean or onto barges for transport, many of which could not be transported via highway due to size and weight.
Aluminum Fabrication
West Coast Floatation Systems is our aluminum fabrication division and are certified to CWB 47.2 standards for fusion welding of aluminum. WCF functions as a separate company building aluminum structures for public and private clients. WCF has internal drafting staff for design and as-built drawings with engineering being subcontracted.
West Coast Floatation Systems’ aluminum fabricators possess substantial experience building aluminum bridges, ramps, gangways, ladders, float frames and a wide range of aluminum items for marine use. Additionally, all the custom designed aluminum structures are made of high quality HSS to ensure durability and a long-lasting performance. Many of West Coast Floatation jobs are contracted through our marine division.

Concrete (Cast-in-Place & Precast Solutions)
Depending on the requirements, concrete footings and approaches can be cast-in-place or precast. Precast structures destined for a marine application can be loaded directly onto barges, shipped to site, and lifted by crane into place. More challenging locations may require footings to be cast in place.
